Ángel Correa Shines in Astonishing 3-2 Comeback Against Cádiz as Atlético Madrid Keeps Pace with Real and Barca

Ángel Correa was not initially in contention for playing the match as team doctors claimed he could miss multiple games with a low-grade ligament sprain. However, the Argentinian miraculously recovered and fought through the pain as he played the entire minutes of this match against Cádiz. As if it was fated, Ángel Correa was the man of the moment as the player managed to drag Atlético Madrid from the pits after a disastrous early 27 minutes that saw them trailed 2-0 at home. Ángel Correa Scores Twice to Rally Atlético From 2-0 Down

After their ill-tempered fixture against Osasuna that saw Álvaro Morata see red, Diego Simeone relied on the front duo of Ángel Correa and Antoine Griezmann to replace the suspended Spaniard. However, the match did not start well for his team as they trailed 2-0 in 27 minutes thanks to goals from Lucas Pires and Roger.

Fortunately, his team woke up after conceding the second goal as Ángel Correa connected nicely with César Azpilicueta’s cross and led the charge for an equaliser. It did not take long after the restart for Atlético to level things up, as Nahuel Molina got his second goal of the season while Saul registered his first assist of the game.

With enhanced confidence and belief, Atlético went in search of a winner, and Ángel Correa repaid the faith in the 66th minute when he smashed his right-footed shot into the high centre of the goal after picking the ball from Saul. After getting the lead, Atlético did what they do best as they set up shop and closed the game out with minimal fuss.

In his own words: “The comeback makes me very happy because it was not easy after the two goals. With tranquillity, the team found the way to win.”

When asked about the form and state of his players for their upcoming Champions League match, Simeone replied: “Now we are thinking about resting. We have little time for the Champions League to regain strength and energy for a tough and difficult competition.”

As for the goalscorer and hero, Ángel Correa, the man himself told DAZN that he still feels something in his knee but fought on for the team. “I had a very strong impact on my knee. I sprained it and couldn’t play in the previous game. With Alvaro [Morata] suspended, [Antoine] Griezmann was alone up front. I wanted to push myself with a bit of pain to help the team, and it turned out well. We knew this was a difficult match, and having won the other two games, we wanted to finish the week on a high note with a win in front of our fans.”

Atlético Madrid Stay on the Heels of Barca and Real

With their comeback win thanks to Ángel Correa, Atlético Madrid managed to stay on the heels of La Liga leaders Real Madrid and second-place Barcelona. Los Blancos currently leads the table with 21 points, while the Blaugrana trail behind them with 20 points.
